Drug regulatory authorities currently request the suppliers of herbal medicinal products in Europe to provide risk assessments and measures for risk minimization regarding pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs).

UK companies are discontinuing herbal extracts of herbs that contain PAs — including Borage and Comfrey. This will inevitably affect Canadian companies when compounding specific remedies for clients.
